17385-sabine-dehnel
Sabine Dehnel
Sabine Dehnel (born 1971 in Ludwigshafen) is one of the rising stars in the young German painting and photography scene. Her work merges painting, photography, and installation. The transition from one medium to another usually leads from a trivial photograph, via painting, to a temporary installation, and finally ends in a C-print. However, the painterly aspect is now a clearly visible component of the photography – for example, through an altered backdrop. Even in her latest series, Mona, the viewer initially doesn't know whether they are looking at photographs or paintings. Here, Dehnel paints the skin of her models, which she then photographs. Strictly limited to the colorful décolletage, on which an amulet with black-and-white portraits of great women rests, the artist thus raises the subject of femininity and the mysterious relationship between idols and their admirers. The book presents her entire oeuvre in detail.

Exhibition: Museum Wiesbaden 29.9.2013–26.1.2014
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0582/8948/8049/files/odoo_9783775736350_ba5df6b8-b634-4544-802a-999e7ff379f8.jpg?v=1744132255
