17725-olivo-barbieri
Olivo Barbieri
In his photographs, Olivo Barbieri (*1954 in Carpi) illuminates human habitats in such a way that unknown facets of reality come to light. Urban centers in China or America dominate his photographic series, alongside natural attractions such as the Dolomites, Alps, or the island of Capri, as well as famous waterfalls in Canada, Argentina, and Zimbabwe. From 2003 to 2013, Barbieri photographed over 40 cities and metropolises worldwide. A stylistic hallmark of his shots is an extremely shallow depth of field, which creates the impression that they are miniature models. Despite crowds of people, traffic flows, skyscraper chains, mountain ranges, or floods of water in rich colors and strong contrasts, the depicted worlds appear alien. This feeling is further intensified by the long exposure of the artificially lit cities. Barbieri's first night pictures were created in Italy in the early 1980s. Ersatz Lights presents all of the artist's nocturnal landscapes for the first time.

Exhibitions: Fotografia Europea, Reggio Emilia 15.5.–17.7.2015 | Villa Manin, Passariano from summer 2016
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0582/8948/8049/files/odoo_9783775739825_3e218dd5-1a23-4304-9b65-c6633196d060.jpg?v=1744123181
