65475-inside-other-spaces
Inside Other Spaces
As expansive, often walkable artworks, environments invite visitors to actively engage with the exhibition, enabling unique, immersive experiences at the intersection of art, architecture, and design. Up to now, research has primarily focused on works by male, Western artists that emerged from happenings and the Fluxus movement. The exhibition "In Other Spaces. Environments by Women Artists 1956 – 1976" expands the canon: featuring 11 female artists from three generations from Asia, Europe, North and South America, including Judy Chicago, Aleksandra Kasuba, and Lygia Clark, it demonstrates for the first time the elementary role of women in the development of this art form. Given their experimental nature, most environments were deconstructed or destroyed immediately after their presentation. The detailed reconstructions, carried out with the help of restorers and based on archival photos, blueprints, and material lists, are presented here for the first time in a catalog. Planned as a reference work for the history of environments, the catalog will include a wealth of visual material, also covering female artists not featured in the exhibition, such as Yayoi Kusama and Yoko Ono, as well as numerous essays and extensive bibliographies on the installations and individual artists.

This book is also available in English.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0582/8948/8049/files/odoo_9783775755603_b915c79e-1f34-4c29-8a6e-ff153997e44e.jpg?v=1744100491
