In the course of establishing a contentious democracy in the 1970s, the series highlighted the impact of artworks in the \"Age of Revolutions.\" The focus was on artists who broke with the conventions of their time: Ossian, Caspar David Friedrich, Johann Heinrich Füssli, William Blake, Johan Tobias Sergel, William Turner, Philipp Otto Runge, John Flaxman, and Francisco Goya.\u003cbr\u003eThe volume documents in great detail all exhibitions of Kunst um 1800 – a nine-stage process that is missing from current considerations of art exhibition history. Numerous authors from art and cultural history cast a critical eye on the post-1968 era and offer new perspectives on this decade of experiments.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePETRA LANGE-BERNDT is Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Department of Art History at the University of Hamburg.\u003cbr\u003eDIETMAR RÜBEL is Professor of History and Theory of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich.
