66584-haegue-yang
Haegue Yang
Haegue Yang: The Cone of Concern is published on the occasion of the Korean artist’s exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Manila. The conceptual works of the artist, who lives in Berlin and Seoul, are rich in cultural-historical references, yet also sensually multifaceted and emotionally charged. Yang is one of the most widely exhibited contemporary artists and a professor at the renowned Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main.
The title Cone of Concern refers to a graphical representation of a weather forecast that traces the path of an approaching storm. Yang views this visualization as an expression of humanity's attempt to confront natural phenomena and as a metaphorical tool to foster solidarity among those facing difficult circumstances. The publication explores her complex layering of objects – woven anthropomorphic sculptures, textile canopies, light sculptures, rotating bells, and sound elements – against the backdrop of a lenticular print with a meteorological motif, an alternating image with a 3D effect.

HAEGUE YANG (*1971, Seoul) lives and works in Berlin and Seoul.
