66590-markus-jokela
Markus Jokela
"I've always been interested in photographing normal, everyday life. For me, the biggest challenge is to take an interesting picture of something very ordinary, almost invisible," reflects Finnish photographer Markus Jokela. His pictures are the result of chance and unplanned encounters. Jokela almost never stages his pictures. Sometimes he asks people to stop, to pause, but mostly he just takes one or two pictures and moves on. Moments and Landscapes of Minor Importance were taken between 2019 and 2023 in Helsinki, most of them within a few kilometers of his home. Jokela has won the World Press Photo Award three times, but despite his photojournalistic work documenting current events, his personal projects often focus on everyday life.

MARKUS JOKELA (*1952, Helsinki) has traveled the world to cover global news.
