In the early days of the Islamic state, photographer Kaveh Golestan documented the capital's red-light district – a few years before it was set ablaze, intending to erase it from Tehran's cityscape and social memory. 61 of Golestan's photographs form the starting point and artistic core of the book, which rediscovers this place and the social and spatial experiences associated with it.

KAVEH GOLESTAN (1950–2003) was an Iranian photojournalist and artist. The first exhibition of the rediscovered material, curated by Vali Mahlouji, was shown at the Foam Museum of Photography, Amsterdam (2014) and subsequently traveled to the Musée d’art Moderne, Paris, and the MAXXI Museum, Rome (2014–2015). The photographs were then exhibited at Photo London (2015), Tate Modern, London (2017–2018), Rohtas Gallery2, Lahore (2020), De la Warr Pavilion (2019), and Arnolfini (2019–2020). Tate Modern acquired the project in 2016.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0582/8948/8049/files/odoo_9783775757621_17972faa-5aee-4cfc-b19d-27626105d652.jpg?v=1744128940
