67250-tapta
Tapta
This book is a comprehensive tribute to the Polish-Belgian artist Tapta (Maria Wierusz-Kowalska), whose work transcends traditional artistic boundaries and captivates audiences with its innovative exploration of fluid spaces and dynamic interactions. Her work is essentially divided into two major sections: the textile works from the 1960s to the 1980s, and the subsequent neoprene works from the last years of her life. She broke away from traditional weaving through the use of experimental techniques and developed her works into three-dimensional sculptures that interact with space and viewers.

TAPTA (1926–1997) was born Maria Irena Boyé, later Wierusz-Kowalska, in Poland and came to Belgium as a political refugee with her husband Krzysztof after participating in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. She studied weaving at the National Higher School of Visual Arts La Cambre in Brussels, where she graduated in 1949. From 1950–1960, the couple lived in Belgian Congo (today the Democratic Republic of Congo). From 1960 until her sudden death, Tapta worked in Brussels as an artist and – from 1976 to 1990 – as a professor at La Cambre.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0582/8948/8049/files/odoo_9783775757669_a684e656-7718-4f48-b5db-24d6cd080801.jpg?v=1744139528
