67262-alfred-kubin
Alfred Kubin
The exhibition at the ALBERTINA modern shows Alfred Kubin's view of the world of evil, the predominant theme of his life and work. For him, one of the most outstanding draughtsmen of the 20th century, the aesthetic of evil proves to be a counter-design to a contemplative idyll. Trapped in his visions, he is confronted with uncanny dream apparitions and a pronounced fear of the feminine, the night, and fate. The catalog explores Kubin's graphic cosmos of the ominous, his nightmares and obsessions, and the iconography of evil.

ALFRED KUBIN (1877–1959) was a significant Austrian draughtsman and graphic artist. After traumatic childhood experiences in Zell am See and subsequent emotional crises, he began his artistic training in Munich in 1898. He processed his nightmares and obsessions in a large number of fantastic drawings. In 1906, he married and bought an estate in Zwickledt near Wernstein am Inn, where he lived until his death.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0582/8948/8049/files/odoo_9783775757720_5c575f1a-f1da-40c4-923c-5a95317b99d6.jpg?v=1744292205
