In prison, he not only wrote a highly readable diary but also developed ideas for wire sculptures. After his release, he realized these, photographed them, and then destroyed the works for fear of discovery. The photographs have been preserved and form the starting point for a history of ideas of drawing in space since the 18th century and its realizations by Marcel Duchamp, Julio González, or Alexander Calder. After 1945, drawing in space, as iron sculpture, in kinetic and concrete art, significantly shaped contemporary outdoor spaces, followed by minimalist spatial installations. Recent examples make the publication both a historical and current panorama.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMICHAEL GLASMEIER (*1951) is an art historian, essayist, publicist, exhibition organizer, and writer, and taught as a professor at art academies in Weimar, Braunschweig, and most recently Bremen from 1992 to 2016. He lives in Berlin.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eANNELIE LÜTGENS (*1956) is an art historian, curator, and publicist. She worked at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, and from 2011 to 2022 headed the Graphic Collection of the Berlinische Galerie.
